Strata CIX System Survivability
for IP Telephones

Today's businesses rely heavily on critical communications including PCs, switches, routers, firewalls, printers and especially their phone system. Telephones remain a vital source for real-time communication and must be operational 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Toshiba's Strata CIX, already well known for its quality and reliability, offers real time survivability for IP phones and Soft IP phones, offering the ability to re-register to a backup CIX if your primary Strata CIX system fails.

Both outgoing and incoming calls automatically follow the IP phones to their new location on the secondary system. Your Strata CIX can also be configured for trunk and voice mail survivability.

Need help coordinating a backup for your Strata CIX system? Call (800) 787-4848 or jnolte@chesapeaketelephone.com.

5 tips to navigate the Nortel to Avaya merge

Concerned about how your Nortel investments will fare with the merger of Nortel and Avaya? A little due diligence will take you a long way. Here are a few tips to get you started on the right path…

1. Immediate Action. Take stock of all of your Nortel systems, focusing on end of life, capacities, system age, access to trained service techs, and level of support during an outage. This will give you a good idea as to how much time you have to develop a migration / replacement strategy.

2. Commit to a Strategic Plan. Waiting to see what Avaya does is risky. You must take a proactive role in protecting your business − choosing a path that avoids major downtime, while looking at newer technologies that can transform your business. Engage the help of industry experts like Chesapeake to help prepare your plan.

3. Investigate. No matter how attractive Avaya's new offerings appear on the surface, it is always worth taking a look at what the market can offer through a competitive analysis of other manufacturers like Mitel and Toshiba. Chesapeake is certified by both of these industry leaders and positioned to offer the best advice.

4. Look at Incentives. Avaya's competitors are offering incentives that are creative and cost effective in terms of technology, TCO, ROI, services, organization fit, and transitioning your current to a new robust environment. Chesapeake can step you through these alternatives.

5. Consider Managed Solutions. If the faltering economy has put you in a financial squeeze, you can conserve capital with hosted services, managed services, and creative leasing options that can address your immediate technology needs.  Shore up your bottom line and position your business for growth.

The experts at Chesapeake are ready to address your concerns about the Nortel-Avaya merge and can help you make a transition that’s right for your business. Contact us today at (800) 787-4848 or jnolte@chesapeaketelephone.com.

Mitel offers ‘virtualized voice’:
What does it it mean to you?

Mitel is again leading the IP voice industry, having integrated a range of its IP voice products with VMware's vSphere 4.0 in support of virtualized voice.  This allows Mitel’s VoIP applications to run on the same server as data applications like SAP or Oracle, saving you money on hardware costs and data center real estate.

These innovations have allowed Mitel to offer several of its VoIP products as virtual appliances, among them:

Capital Leases qualify for 2009 tax credit

As noted in our last newsletter, under Internal Revenue Code Section 179 depreciation provisions, small businesses can potentially deduct up to $250,000 of purchased equipment and software as soon as these items are put to work. The same deal applies to leased equipment…

If you purchase a system under a capital lease structure, you can still write off all the money under the 2009 tax credit guidelines.

Not only do you get the equipment you need now, but it takes only a small amount of money between now and the end of this year to get it. The good news − you can write off the entire amount of the capital lease immediately, up to $250,000 … A true win-win for your business!

Check with your accountant for the specific details of IRS Section 179. Then contact Chesapeake for help implementing your purchase plan: (800) 787-4848 or email jnolte@chesapeaketelephone.com.
