Auto Dealership revs up business with new phone system

To coincide with its move to a new facility, Jaguar Land Rover Annapolis wanted to replace its old phone system to keep up with emerging technologies… now a new telecom and data network has their communications running in high gear.

Chesapeake engineered an IP-capable Toshiba Strata CTX-670 phone system with Voice mail to improve call flow through the dealership. 8-way conferencing enables impromptu team meetings, and Integrated Paging improves customer response anywhere in the sprawling dealership.

Chesapeake coordinated an ISDN PRI supports the dealership’s voice traffic and a Dedicated T1 provides Broadband Internet access. A separate DSL at an Internet kiosk lets customers get online while waiting for their vehicles to be serviced. A Wireless LAN supports the dealership’s data networking needs, providing mobility for staff.

The dealership’s system administrator now has full control of the system through a web-based management tool. Future plans include a telework application to allow staff to enjoy a more flexible schedule, and the Wireless LAN will support Voice over IP.

Untangle your business with Wireless Networking

As more businesses seek to untangle themselves from the morass of cables behind their desks, the simplicity and freedom of wireless networks, or Wi-Fi, is catching on in a big way.

There are 4 flavors of Wi-Fi you may have heard of, each differing in frequency, speed, range, and interoperability, as summarized below.

Mitel Simplifies Management of its 3300 IP Platform

Mitel has added a new protocol that allows simplified provisioning, ease of administration and several valuable new discovery capabilities for its 3300 IP Platform. The new protocol enables:

  • Inventory management, allowing network administrators to track VoIP devices and determine their characteristics (manufacturer, software and hardware versions, serial / asset number).

  • Device location discovery, critical to reporting the end user location during emergency calling.

  • Extended and automated management of Power over Ethernet (POE) endpoints.

  • "Fast start" mechanisms allow VoIP devices to come fully into service in a timely fashion.

  • Auto-discovery of Quality of Service LAN policies, leading to "plug and play" VoIP networking.
