In Memory of Doug Singleton
All
of us at Chesapeake are mourning the death of Doug Singleton, who passed
away at the age of 44 on Friday, April 10, 2009 at Baltimore Washington
Medical Center after a long battle with cancer.
For the past 5 years, Doug worked with us at Chesapeake Telephone Systems.
Doug’s contribution to Chesapeake cannot be overstated − his friendship, his
professionalism with clients and colleagues, and his positive outlook during
these past years stand as an inspiring example of courage we can all take to
heart. Above all, Douglas valued his faith, friendships and family and
taught and inspired everyone around him to live with love, honor, strength
and commitment.

Red Flag: Make sure you know your lease and
network services contracts
Are you and your finance department aware of when your
equipment lease expires? Some leasing companies do not send out any notice
when the lease expires and some only send a simple notification that can be easy
to overlook.
After a lease expires you could be making payments to the leasing company
for months − we have seen YEARS − after the actual term expires. The
additional payments are NOT applied to the buyout of the system. Those
overpayments could have been used to upgrade your system to current
technology.
Evergreen clauses in network services contracts could cost you
thousands of dollars. Under this clause, "services and rates renew
automatically for the same term" unless you contact the carrier 90 days in
advance of term expiration.
Review your contract now and if you cannot find it, call your carrier and
ask when the term of your existing services expires and if there is an
evergreen clause. Ask them to respond in writing.
Chesapeake's experts excel at getting you the best deals and helping you
decipher carrier
contracts... We have the knowledge and expertise to match your requirements
with the best choice of equipment and network service providers.

Mitel 3300 IP Phone System earns its stripes…
receives JITC Certification
Mitel’s 3300 IP phone system has achieved Joint Interoperability Test
Command (JITC) certification, one of the highest levels of security
accreditation granted by the U.S. Department of Defense.
JITC tests and certifies technology for the armed services and
government. As a result of meeting all critical interoperability
requirements, the 3300 has been added to the DoD’s Unified
Capabilities Approved Product List and is certified for use within the
Defense Switched Network.
This certification means the 3300 can be used to provide secure
communications for the defense network and enable end-to-end operational
effectiveness for these organizations and their partners.
JITC certification is mandatory for all voice networking equipment
connecting to the Defense Switched Network. It ensures products are
secure, operate optimally in a multi-vendor environment, meet exacting
levels of performance under duress, and offer other unique features and
functionality required for national security.

Believe it or Not!
33.7 Million U.S. Workers Now Telecommute
About 33.7 million U.S.
workers now telecommute at least one day a month, up 43% from five years
ago, according to new figures from the human resources association, WorldatWork.
The study shows that occasional telework has risen dramatically, with
more employers willing to try new ways of working.
The study also found a shift away from full-time telework to occasional
telework, with the number of those working remotely at least once a month
growing, and the number of those doing it almost every day decreasing
slightly. Eighty-seven percent of those who telecommute do so from home.
The benefits of teleworking include reduced real estate costs, business
continuity, more productivity, and access to more people in more places. For help in
designing a program for your business, contact us today at (800) 787-4848
